THE NEW SKINNY ON FILLER

Filler technology has undergone amazing refinements over the last several years. HA (hyaluronic acid) fillers such as Restylane and Juvederm provide immediate gratification in wrinkle smoothing and are reversible as well. Fillers are not one size fits all. Fillers now have specific properties that make them suitable for certain locations or niche uses. All this is for increased patient benefit. Filler selection is an important first step in your filler treatment.

Restylane Lyft, and Restylane Silk employ NASHA cross linking. These fillers each have particles of different which makes each of them ideal for correction of wrinkles of different depths. You didn’t think 1 HA type would fill all sizes of wrinkles, did you?

Lyft is designed with what is known as a high G1. Without getting too geeky, what a high G1 means for you is increased lift and definition. A high G1 filler is advantageous for locations such as the cheekbone where youthful uplift is desirable and for the jawline where youthful and slimming definition is a real plus.

Juvederm Voluma’s design makes it ideal for areas where a a balance of a good G1 and contouring ability is desirable.

There are locations such as marionette lines and nasolabial folds in which a flexible filler or a smooth flowing gently spreading filler provides an advantage. Modern filler technology has accomplished this. Restylane Define and Refine are made with “XpressHAn” technology for the flexibility of a filler that moves with your full range of facial expression. Juvederm Vollure is known for its gentle smooth natural spread ability.

Filler Basics

Hyaluronic Fillers are the ideal, non-surgical method to achieve wrinkle alleviation and improved facial contours and fill areas of volume loss.  Many general statements are made about fillers but to understand them better you should consider them in two categories: deep and dermal. Dermal fillers can instantly reduce wrinkles where as deep fillers restore facial contours, lost volume and softly lift facial features that have fallen.

New longer lasting fillers with improved properties have become available in the US.  The fillers are being developed for a specific location and typically last 9 months to a year from the date of treatment with the effects even longer with optimum correction.

Fillers include Voluma®, Juvederm®, Vollure®, Volbella®, Restylane Lyft®, Restylane Silk®,Perlane®  Belotero®  and Restylane Refyne & Defyne®.

Dermal fillers are the best treatment option for patients who wish to minimize the appearance of an individual wrinkle.

Deep Fillers like Voluma, Restylane Lyft Radiesse® and Sculptra® are the first antidote for the lost facial volume and facial droopiness that occurs with age.

Voluma is the first filler that LIFTS as well as fills and is long-lasting. Voluma®, instantly lifts the cheeks to a more youthful position which improves the look of the face as a whole.

Each filler in has it’s own unique attributes that work in it’s own way. Choosing the right filler for optimal results is just one of the reasons why patients trust skilled, experienced, board certified cosmetic surgeon Dr. Julia Sabetta to create a treatment plan that will give them their desired outcomes.

Fillers are ideal for contouring, volumizing and smoothing:

  • Wrinkles, lines, and furrows
  • Crow’s feet
  • Brow droops
  • Smile/laugh lines known as Nasolabial folds
  • Marionette lines
  • Sagging cheeks
  • Granny hands
  • Thinning lips
  • Lipstick lines
  • Dark under eye circles

As we age, we lose volume and fullness in our skin and underlying tissues. The results are folds, wrinkles and sagging in our skin. Fillers, as their name would suggest, fill areas in which we have lost volume to counteract the aging process, reduce or eliminate wrinkles and replace soft-tissue loss, resulting in the revolumizing and rejuvenation of your face.

Understanding More About Fillers

Dermal Fillers
Voluma®, Juvederm®, Vollure®, Volbella®, Restylane Lyft®, Restylane Silk®,Perlane®  Belotero®  and Restylane Refyne & Defyne® are dermal fillers made from hyaluronic acid, which is a naturally occurring substance in your skin that helps provide skin fullness and resiliency. Hyaluronic acid fillers restore and support and also attract water to the treated area. Depending on which filler is used and the area being treated hyaluronic acid fillers can result in wrinkle improvement for up to eighteen months for the longer lasting variety.

Vollure®, Juvederm® & Restylane® are standard treatments for medium depth marionette lines, smile lines, dark under eye circles and depressed scars. Volbella® Restylane Silk® and Belotero® are especially useful for those pesky fine lines like crow’s feet and lipstick lines.

Deep Fillers
Deep fillers are used differently than dermal fillers in most instances. Deep fillers are the antidote for the lost facial volume and facial droopiness that occurs with age. Deep fillers replace the lost volume and help to lift for a more youthful look. By replacing the lost volume deep fillers can be your personal anti-gravity solution.

Radiesse® is a calcium-based deep filler which can be used to re-create diminished cheekbones, especially in men and is FDA approved for use in the hands, to reduce that bony and veiny look that is such a tell tale of one’s age.

Sculptra® is a biostimulatory deep filler that stimulates the skin’s production of its own collagen, to add long lasting volume over time. Unlike the other fillers that provide more instant results, Sculptra® results build over time.

Sculptra® is a biostimulatory deep filler and it is the treatment of choice for patients who require pan-facial re-volumizing because of sunken facial appearance.

Sculptra® stimulates the body’s gradual production of collagen to create volume. For this reason Sculptra® is performed in several treatment sessions in order for Dr. Sabetta to monitor that you are developing the natural look you desire. Sculptra® requires, on the part of the injector, a thorough understanding of the three dimensional aesthetics of the face.

Deep fillers are excellent for treating severe nasolabial folds, brow droops, dramatic sunken cheeks, and “Granny hands,” but cannot be used on the lips.
