We have great effective treatments for hyper-pigmentation including Melasma, both in office and home regimens.  There is no need to suffer with hyper-pigmentation or to have to cover up with heavy makeup.  Proper sunscreen use is imperative but alone is not sufficient to manage your melasma/hyperpigmentation.  Although these are often chronic problems they are manageable and can be significantly improved with a safe regimen.

We now know that not only does sunlight but also heat and visible light exacerbate Melasma.  Waxing and laser treatments including laser hair removal are risky in melasma skin and can worsen the melasma.

Melasma is a symmetrical hormonal pigmentation usually on the face.  This means birth control pills, pregnancy, and hormone therapy can all trigger melasma.
